The pressing need is evident. For single parents who have potentially experienced life-altering circumstances, the journey is already challenging. Without reliable transportation, the prospects of improving one's education and financial standing can seem nearly insurmountable. A common misconception is that government assistance is available to aid those in need of transportation, but this is not the case. Currently, there is no government support for individuals in this regard.
When you lack a vehicle, your options are often limited to public transportation or ride-sharing services like Uber, Via, or Lyft. Unfortunately, these alternatives can be costly and unreliable. When you consider the substantial financial commitments single parents face, such as child care, housing, utilities, healthcare, groceries, and more, it becomes clear that adding a car payment to the mix is often unfeasible.
It's essential to recognize that many of these single parents did not choose this path. Some have tragically lost spouses in accidents, battled terminal illnesses, been victims of domestic violence or even sexual assault - causing an unplanned pregnancy. Our mission is to provide assistance to these single parents by offering them a vehicle at no cost to them. This vehicle serves as a lifeline, enabling them to transport their children to school, Doctors appointments, extracurricular activities, commute to work, or to pursue higher education.
As a tightly-knit San Antonio community, we have the power to come together and support our neighbors during these trying times. By extending a helping hand, we can empower these individuals to take control of their lives and drive themselves out of the incredibly challenging situations they face.
