Growing up in a single-parent household, I witnessed my mother's relentless struggles without access to a vehicle. Meeting basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter became challenging for her. Employment opportunities remained out of reach due to the absence of reliable transportation. Living in a rural area meant there were no dependable public transportation options. Consequently, if I missed the school bus, attending classes became nearly impossible, leading to frequent absences. When my mother did manage to acquire a vehicle, it was often repossessed due to the inability to keep up with monthly payments.
Leaving an abusive relationship was an incredibly difficult decision, and I departed with little more than a basket of clothes, diapers, my daughters, and a strong sense of faith. My car was more than just a mode of transportation; it was the vehicle that drove me toward success. Now, I am determined to extend the same opportunity to others.
Having a car was a lifeline for us. It granted me the means to commute to my two jobs, enroll in college, and transport my daughters to school and daycare. Without that vehicle, I often wonder how I could have escaped the clutches of poverty and the hardships of that situation. Today, the fog has lifted, and I realize that this is my chance to assist those who are still engulfed in the overwhelming journey of single parenting. As the Founder of Driving Single Parents Inc., I want to offer respite to those of you who just need a chance to breathe.
